There is always going to be a demand for ivory, especially with it banned. Many countries, like Malawi and Zimbabwe, don’t believe ivory should be illegal (Chadwick 14). These places weren’t directly affected and feel that they have a healthy herd(14). Referencing the book Elephant Destiny, “ African ivory was prized more than any other. It was finer-grained, richer in tone and larger than Indian ivory. East Africa on its own ranked as the world’s largest source of ivory throughout the century. It produced what was known as ‘soft’ ivory that was white, opaque, smooth, gently curved and easily worked”(Meredith 107). These qualities are the reason that Africa was affected the most by poaching. African ivory was the best resource that one could attain. Although a few countries are not for the ban on ivory, most regions are. This union amongst the countries will provide the world to have the universal view that  every piece of ivory is an endangerment to the elephant species.
